Abductor Tendon Tears

The abductor muscles of the hip, gluteus medius & gluteus minimus, are located on the side of the hip. These muscles move the leg away from the midline of the body and support the pelvis during weight bearing. Tears of the tendon insertion of these muscles into the side of the hip bone can cause severe, chronic lateral (side-of-hip) pain and weakness. Many of these tears can be repaired by arthroscopic hip surgery. Dr. Heinrich was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform this complex arthroscopic procedure.
